The Process

Once we have agreed to work together I will arrange and facilitate a meeting (approximately 2 hours) either virtually or in person with the couple for a wedding or with the family and anyone who wants to participate in contributing to the celebration of life ceremony. In this meeting I will find out everything I can and make sure I have explored what kinds of readings, music and activities you might want included. If any family members or friends want to participate in the ceremony I will call them after the meeting to coordinate what they are planning to say or read. As I create the ceremony I will also find appropriate readings and design rituals when appropriate

For funerals: I will create a script and structure for the ceremony that I believe captures the story of the person who died and how they impacted their family and friends. I will provide an outline for the Order of Service and coordinate with all parties to make sure the logistical details are taken care of. On the day of the event I will touch base with everyone involved and lead the ceremony.

For Weddings: I will create a ceremony that integrates the couple’s ideas and make sure all the participants are on the same page. I, of course, would like to see your vows ahead of time if you plan to write them. I will provide an outline of the service including music and readings. I will coordinate with your planner and deliver the service at the location.

A note on religious ceremonies: I practice Nichiren Buddhism and believe there is value in all religions, spiritual practices as well as approaching life without religion. I am happy to include prayers and readings from different disciplines and often will ask a loved one to present them if they feel comfortable. With that said, I do secular ceremonies so if you want a strictly religious ceremony I may not be a good fit for you and your family/friends.
